Understanding Concentrate Types

Concentrates are cannabis extracts that isolate the plant's most desirable compounds — cannabinoids and terpenes — into a highly potent form. They differ in texture, extraction method, flavor, and potency.

Wax

60-80% THC

Texture: Soft, pliable

A soft, opaque concentrate with a waxy consistency. Easy to work with using a dab tool. Wax retains a strong terpene profile, making it flavorful and aromatic. A good entry point for those new to concentrates.

Shatter

70-85% THC

Texture: Hard, glass-like

A translucent, brittle concentrate that breaks (shatters) when handled. Known for its purity and potency. Shatter is made through a careful extraction process that removes fats and waxes, resulting in a clean, clear product.

Live Resin

65-85% THC

Texture: Sticky, saucy

Made from fresh-frozen cannabis rather than dried and cured flower. This process preserves the full terpene profile, producing concentrates with exceptional flavor and aroma. Considered premium for its true-to-plant representation.

Rosin

60-80% THC

Texture: Varies, sticky

A solventless concentrate made using only heat and pressure. No chemicals involved in extraction. Rosin appeals to consumers who prioritize clean, natural products and are willing to pay a premium for solventless processing.

Budder

60-80% THC

Texture: Creamy, smooth

A whipped concentrate with a creamy, butter-like consistency. Budder is easy to handle and dose, making it user-friendly for both beginners and experienced consumers. Rich in terpenes with smooth flavor.

Diamonds

80-99% THC

Texture: Crystalline

Pure THCA crystals, often paired with terpene-rich sauce. Diamonds represent the highest potency concentrates available. Strictly for experienced consumers who understand their tolerance and dosing needs.

Potency

60 – 90% THC

Concentrates contain significantly more THC than flower, which typically ranges from 15-30%. A single dab of concentrate delivers what might take several hits of flower to achieve. This makes concentrates efficient but also demands respect.

If you are new to concentrates, start with the lowest potency option available and use the smallest amount possible. A rice grain-sized portion is a reasonable starting point. You can always take more after assessing the effects.

For Experienced Consumers

Concentrates are designed for people who already have a relationship with cannabis. If you have never consumed cannabis, we recommend starting with flower or low-dose edibles and building your understanding of your tolerance before exploring concentrates.

How to Consume

Consumption Methods

Method 01

Dab Rigs

A water pipe designed specifically for concentrates. A heated nail or banger vaporizes the concentrate, which is then inhaled through water filtration. Produces strong, immediate effects. Requires a torch or electronic nail.

Best For

Home use, maximum flavor and effect

Method 02

Vape Pens

Many vape cartridges contain concentrate oil. This is the most portable and discreet method of consuming concentrates. The pen heats the oil to vaporization temperature without combustion.

Best For

Portability, discretion, convenience

Method 03

Adding to Flower

Concentrates can be added to flower in a bowl, joint, or blunt to increase potency. A small amount of wax or budder on top of a packed bowl significantly enhances the experience. Use sparingly.

Best For

Enhanced flower experience, versatility

What to Look For

Quality Markers in Concentrates

Color & Clarity

Quality concentrates are typically golden to amber in color. Dark or green hues can indicate excess plant material or poor extraction. Live resin may be lighter due to its fresh-frozen process.

Aroma

Concentrates should have a pronounced, pleasant aroma driven by terpenes. Chemical or solvent odors are a red flag indicating improper purging.

Consistency

Each type should match its expected texture: shatter should snap, budder should be creamy, wax should be pliable. Inconsistent texture suggests processing issues.

Lab Results

Always verify that concentrate products include certificate of analysis data. Potency, residual solvents, and contaminant testing are essential for safety.
